How to Reference an E-book Using the Vancouver Style

The Vancouver referencing style is widely used to cite medical documents. References should be numbered according to the order they were mentioned in the text. Therefore, alphabetical order is not used. Only the reference list should be included, not footnotes or bibliographies.

The basic way of citing references is as follows:

Number of the reference. Surname, First name initial(s). Title [Internet]. Place of publication: Publisher; year [cited YYYY Month abbreviation DD]. Available from: database or URL

If the e-book was accessed from a database, the reference should look like this:

Zasler, N, Katz, D, Zafonte, R. Brain injury medicine [Internet]. New York: Demos Medical Publishing; 2007 [cited 2013 Feb 16]. Available from: Google books

Please be aware that the word ‘and’ or the symbol ‘&’ are not used when citing more than one author and that the title is not italicised.

Professional proofreading is advisable when using the Vancouver referencing style, as it can be very tricky.
